I was invited to a birthday party for a friend of mine 2 little boys, but was unable to make it. I really wanted to get the boys something but did not know what to shop for. I decided to make them something I think they will like. These crayon roll/art pads are awesome for little ones. Here is a list of where they will come in handy:
1- Trips in the car
2- waiting in the (dreaded Dr.'s lobby)
3- Church (sometimes we keep our little ones with us in church but want them to keep still). I know someone reading this is saying AMEN!!! Trust me I hear you. That's just to name a few...so here is how I made mine.
Supplies:
*3 pieces of fabric each measuring 7 1/2 x 15 1/2
*Rick Rack/trim
*Fusible interfacing 7 1/2 x 15 1/2 (I used fleece fus. int.)
*Ribbon (16in and 13in)
Choose your coordinating fabrics and trim. Iron your fabrics so they are nice and crisp/flat.
Thickness |
rough side of interfacing. |
Iron the wrong side of the main fabric to the rough side of the interfacing. Make sure it sticks! Cut off any excess interfacing.
Fold coordinating fabric in half the long way and press. Place this onto the bottom half of the one you just ironed.
Now it's time to mark where you want the crayons to go. starting from the left side mark 1/4, and then every 1"(1/4,1",1",1",1",1",4 1/2, 1", 1", 1", 1", 1", 1/4). Then sew on your marked lines.
It should look like this.
Your coordinating fabric is now sewn to the main fabric that's attached to the interfacing
Place your trim on top of it all and pin all the way around. Clip ends of your rick rack and then burn the ends so they don't fray. Then stitch it all the way around.
Remember how I mentioned earlier about being distracted and forgetting to do something you needed to do. Well that happened again...hence this picture. I got distracted and then came back to sewing and forgot to take pictures as I sewed. UGHH!! So... at this point, you need to place the last remaining main fabric(the back) on top of everything you just did. Right side to Right side and sew through all thickness leaving about a 4" opening to turn it right side out. Clip your corners, then turn right side out. Press (iron) it very good.
Top stitch all the way around making sure to catch that 4" opening
This is the finished product. Cute right?!!
Here are some pictures of others I made later that day. Check out my Facebook page (The Purple Boutique )and hit the page like button and share. Don't forget to shop! :)
I hope I have inspired you to make some for your little ones. Trust me when I say they will love them. Also the great thing about these is, when the child gets a bit older and no longer uses crayons, the thin markers or colored pencils will fit perfectly in them.
Have a Blessed day y'all.
Happy sewing!
